The basic composition of silver brazing filler metal is silver-copper binary system and silver-copper-zinc ternary system.
The properties change depending on the amount of silver.
Various elements are added to give it special characteristics.
- Nickel: Increases corrosion resistance against stainless steel and wettability against cemented carbide tool steel.
- Tin: Lowers the melting point and improves workability and fluidity.
- Indium: Lowers melting point and improves workability.
- Manganese: Lowers melting point and improves workability.
Silver brazing filler metal (containing Cadmium)
Adding cadmium (Cd) is the most effective way to lower the melting point of brazing filler metal and improve work efficiency by improving the fluidity.
Cadmium is specified as a hazardous substance in the RoHS directive.

Phosphorus Copper brazing filler metal
Phosphorus-copper brazing is characterized by the fact that phosphorus (P) acts as a flux (reducing copper oxides), so copper can be brazed without flux.
